From now on, there will be one general jurisdiction court operating in Yerevan, consisting of the court president and 65 judges: The buildings of the general jurisdiction courts of the administrative districts will serve as the premises for the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan. The central location of the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan will be in the territory of the Kentron administrative district of Yerevan. The general jurisdiction court of Yerevan will have one president judge, while the premises will not have presidents.
The reason for this change was the disproportionate workload of judges in the general jurisdiction courts in different administrative districts.
After the initiation of a civil case or the receipt of a criminal case in court, the documents related to that case will be submitted to the premises of the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan where the case will be heard. Moreover, when distributing civil cases, Yerevan will be considered as one judicial area, which means that, for example, a case involving a defendant residing in the Avan administrative district may be heard not in the Avan premises of the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan, but in the Arabkir premises.
Criminal cases in the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan will, as a rule, be distributed among the judges of the premises that received the criminal case from the relevant subdivision of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia operating in that service area.
