The need to obtain a certificate regarding marital status (not being married or not being in a marriage) arises when a person permanently residing in the Republic of Armenia wishes to register a marriage in another country:
The certificate is provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia based on the information provided by the territorial division of the Civil Status Acts Registration (hereinafter referred to as CAA) body at the applicant's place of residence regarding the absence of a marriage registration act:
Both citizens of the Republic of Armenia permanently residing in the Republic of Armenia and foreign citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in the Republic of Armenia can obtain a certificate regarding marital status:
The applicant must present to the ministry a certificate from the territorial division of the Civil Status Acts Registration (CAA) at the applicant's place of residence regarding the absence of a marriage registration act, and if they have been previously married, a copy of the document confirming the termination of the marriage:
The certificate is issued within 5 days after the required documents are submitted to the ministry. If there is a need to verify the information provided in the submitted documents, the deadline may be extended by another seven days. If the applicant does not submit the required document from the CAA territorial division along with the application, the ministry obtains the necessary information through relevant inquiries, and the calculation of the above-mentioned deadline for issuing the certificate regarding marital status begins after the ministry receives responses to the inquiries:
If the applicant intends to present the certificate to any country that is a party to the Hague Convention on the Abolition of the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, the certificate must also have an “Apostille” confirmation. The legalization of the document (Apostille confirmation) is also carried out by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. For documents sent to the member countries of the CIS that have joined the Kishinev Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters, which came into force on February 19, 2005, there is no need to apostille the certificate. Documents prepared or certified by the judicial institutions of the Republic of Armenia or other competent authorities regarding the provision of legal assistance are valid without any legalization in Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, and some other countries:
The certificate regarding marital status is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance.
