Does the Dissolution of Marriage Lead to the Loss of Temporary Residency Status?

In the Republic of Armenia, one of the grounds for obtaining a temporary residency status is being a spouse, parent, or child of a foreigner holding a temporary residency status in the Republic of Armenia, as well as being a spouse or close relative (parent, child, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild) of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia or of a foreigner holding a permanent or special residency status in the Republic of Armenia.

A residency status granted to a foreigner on any of the aforementioned grounds shall be declared invalid, and the foreigner shall be deprived of the residency status, if their marriage to the citizen of the Republic of Armenia or the foreigner holding a residency status in the Republic of Armenia has been dissolved or declared invalid.

The specified rule does not apply to those foreigners who have acquired a residency status in the Republic of Armenia, provided they have been married and have resided within the territory of the Republic of Armenia for at least one year.

In such cases, the foreign spouse who has acquired a temporary status in the Republic of Armenia may apply for an extension of the temporary residency status.
