Children’s position during their parents’ divorce remains a delicate matter. A variety of reasons can result in a child refusing contact with a parent in response to the challenging situation.

Objective reasons can lead to a child’s decision, such as a parent’s aggressive or indifferent behavior. However, it can also be the result of the negative influence of the other parent. Child alienation from the parent in Armenia
It occurs when one parent exhibits hostile behaviour and language toward the other parent, which in turn, causes their child also to become hostile toward the other parent. Children who experience negative emotions toward the parent under the influence of the other parent or a relative are children of Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS). They often present with feelings of anger, hostility, and other complex emotional symptoms. They may also have underlying feelings of confusion and pain but conceal these emotions from others.
Is Parental Alienation officially in use in Armenian legislation?
Although the notion of Parental Alienation Syndrome is not in use in the Armenian legislation, however, there are legal tools for the protection of the parent's rights facing this problem.
What can you do If your spouse is alienating you?
If you are the subject of alienation, be persistent with your rights. If you have a court order granting you custody or visitation, your spouse cannot take that away. If your spouse obstacles in exercising your rights, then consulting an attorney are highly recommended.
If you do not yet have a final court order on custody or visitation with your child then you can ask the court to take interim measures for preventing the alienation.
